Child/Teen Therapy in Georgetown, ON

Children and adolescents sometimes feel down, anxious, or angry just like adults.  Sometimes they have low confidence, or have difficulties with school or their relationships.  Some youth have more complex needs that require specialized care and support.  It is so important to seek professional support early as often problems presenting in childhood, if left untreated, are likely to follow a client into adulthood.  Unfortunately, this has the potential to impact upon all aspects of the child's life such as educational development, social interactions and career success.

Our experienced and fully trained therapists are pleased to offer professional support for children and teens to help them flourish.  At Couples Therapy Centre, we work with the child/teen to help them think through and process the problems that they are experiencing, at a rate that they are comfortable with.  Therapy gives them time to explore their thoughts and feelings and helps him/her/them to better understand their situation. It can help them cope with their emotions and enable them to make positive choices. Ultimately, it can help children and young people to feel more safe, secure and happy. Our therapists bring a wealth of techniques to promote emotional health, including music therapy, play-based and art-based therapy as well as CBT, DBT and mindfulness techniques.

Our therapists may also see parents or carers with or without the child being present.  The work may focus on helping the parent make sense of the child’s behaviour, as well as how the parent’s own issues might interfere with their ability to parent. It may also explore different possibilities in parenting styles. Supporting the family unit in this holistic way ensures we are not simply working with children and young people in isolation. Our aim is to help parents and carers become better informed regarding how to offer appropriate support to young people struggling with their mental health.
