What is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Pretty much what it sounds like! Therapy in Georgetown, Ontario while walking together outside. We meet in front of my office and walk side by side. We may use benches occasionally and we will walk at a speed that suits you. As the client, you have the opportunity to set the pace you want. You will need to make sure that you are wearing sufficiently warm clothing and shoes that are suitable for walking. Some routes may be wet or muddy at certain times of year, but we can use alternative routes that are more urban or use hard paths if necessary.
We are of course flexible with regard to turning it into an in-office session if the weather is terrible and either of us feel it would interfere with the therapy itself.
Why Bring Therapy Outdoors?
Being outside in nature can have a beneficial effect on your mental and physical health. Spending time in nature can stimulate healing and boost the immune system. Our own experiences are that deepening our connection with nature has a restorative effect on our mental and physical health.
Not Sure Walk and Talk Therapy is for You?
There’s only one way to find out…….give it a try!
We’ll walk at a pace that suits you and allows you space to talk and reflect. We can use benches if you need a break or simply want to sit down. You remain the focus of the session, as with counselling indoors in a room or virtually. Keep in mind that we may be interrupted by people, animals or events. This does not mean, however, that the therapeutic benefits of it are less. It's simply a different experience.
You may decide that you need the additional sense of containment of being in a room, or you may value the freedom being outdoors provides you.
Please Note: This service is only available for individual therapy sessions.
Concerned about Being Fit Enough for Walk and Talk?
You can set the pace to one that is comfortable for you. If you don’t get much exercise day-to-day, walking for an hour might seem like a lot. This could be an opportunity to fit a little exercise into your life. Keep in mind that we can tailor routes so that we can use benches or points of rest.
